ABOUT...

A Summer in 1993 in Spanish Harlem finally reveals the secret past of Cuban-American cardiac nurse Negra Centron. A childhood secret torments the life and stifles the growth of a beautiful woman. The ancient religion of the Yoruba people of Nigeria, known as Regla de Ocha and Santeria in the Diaspora, is the engine behind this supernatural mystery thriller. This African-evolved religion, with its magic, is the backdrop for this tale of love, hate, deceit, betrayal, obsession, forgiveness, acceptance, and hope. Magic, ritual, and destiny are the threads unraveling this gripping, edgy, mystery/thriller.

Pressured by a suspicious mother, a strange bed-fellow, and an amorous co-worker, Negra battles to keep a childhood secret from unraveling while a restless spirit and the African gods seek justice...

RIP EDGAR MALDONADO!

Congero extraordinaire Edgar Maldonado!  Wega!
Our wonderful conga player in "A Wound In Time" has passed on.  Edgar Maldonado was a cancer survivor who had been battling the disease for years.  I asked him to play congas not just to add a nice touch to the play but because I knew if he did what he loved and was good at it could possibly take his mind off his illness and give him something to look forward to.  I am glad he had a chance to do just that, passing over exactly 2 weeks from closing night!  God bless you and mucho gracias!

OUR "CHEE CHEE" GETS CAST IN A FILM!

Clarence Leonard Jr. as Chee Chee
Just got great news that the cast member who played the character Chee Chee in "A Wound In Time" just got cast in a film by someone who saw his performance in the show closing night.  Congrats to Clarence Leonard Jr. on landing the gig and for a job well done!

BOOM!!!! WHAT A CLOSING NIGHT!!!

What can I say?  After everyone slowly recovers from the malaise from hurricane Sandy, I can at least say "A Wound In Time" went out with a BAM!!!!  What a lovely turnout for the final performance.  I so appreciate each and everyone who came out during this hectic holiday week.  It meant so much to the cast and I.  Your kind words well remain in my heart forever...

SPEECHLESS AND GRATEFUL!

A friend, who I've known from the days I bartended at the Broadway show "Cats" and she worked Concessions,  came to see my historical Creole drama, "Blood Makes The Red River Flow", last February.  It was her first time seeing my work.  She couldn't attend "A Wound In Time" but she insisted on sending me a check instead in support of my work and my cause, because she had so enjoyed my Creole drama, and learned so much.  I tried to fight her on  this but she insisted.  I am so amazed that my work is so appreciated.

Janie Braxton is a treasure...

OUR HURRICANE SANDY MAKEUP SHOW IS NO GO!

Our closing night show is gonna be a blast!  Even with the holiday week advance sales for Tuesday are moving steadily.  So nice of folks to want to take time from their holiday preparation to spend with us!  Thank you all!  Our Monday makeup show is therefore cancelled.  We have to succumb to the wrath of Sandy, but she won't spoil our closing night!

THE CLUB SCENE

Jellybean Benitez

In the night club scene of "A Wound In Time" the character Chee Chee says, "DJ Jellybean is spinnin' his fine ass off in here tonight!"  It is an homage to my former "therapist" Jellybean Benitez!

WOW!!!!!

Ryss with original and current cast member Irma Cadiz
What a show last night!  The cast really turned it out!  With Weez Tomlinson taking the reins in her role as Iya Carmen for the first time was nice to see.  The lovely Katherine Dickson understudied for her as she did her supernumerary gig at the Met Opera.

It was also wonderful to have Ryss in the audience.  She originated the role of the snoopy, busy body Cuban mother in the show's showcase production at Nuyorican Poets Cafe.   She looked and spoke wonderfully after recovering from a stroke.

Ryss with cast members Alzie Rejouis, Stacey Griffin, and Star Davis
Theatrical photographer, Lee Wexler, was there to take cast photos.  His work is breathtaking and I can't wait to see what he has for us.  He loved the show and I loved him!

THE ORIGINAL MILLIE WILL BE OUR GUEST

Ryss will join us as a guest.  She played Millie Centron in the original production at Nuyorican Poets Cafe.  Happily, she is recovering nicely from a stroke which initially left her speechless.  But she's back and chatty as ever.  Can't wait to hear her voice again!

CONGAS IN DA HOUSE!!!

Congero Edgar Maldonado is our "Honorary Cast Member" assisting with the feel and sound of El Barrio on stage! WEPA!!!

THE HEAT IS ON!!!

Riveting, funny, sexy, hip, edgy mystery thriller will stun!  Yesterday's rehearsal was quite eventful.  Firstly, I did my radio show "Multicultural Moments" on location interviewing some of the cast members just minutes before rehearsal.  Secondly, there were 2 major breakthroughs as I watched characters being born right in front of my eyes.  When an entire cast is witness to such an occurance it is an inspiration, indeed!  They are now more than ready and totally fired up!

Check out yesterday's radio program on demand Multicultural Moments With the Cast
